In my instruments, each element is bonded with the most suitable glue; adhesive resins are applied on the basis of their chemical characteristics, depending on the material to be bonded and the function that they have to play.<\/p><p>Glues I use are:<\/p><p><strong>Aliphatic:<\/strong>\u00a0is a non-toxic resin \u00a0similar in appearance to the vinilic glue, especially suited to\u00a0bonding porous woods. It is non-reversible, tenacious and highly resistant to solvents, paints and grease. Used in violin and cabinet making\u00a0for several decades, it is now commonly used for all kinds of bonding and in\u00a0the production of fillers.<\/p><p><strong>Hide glue:<\/strong>\u00a0is the most commonly used glue in luthiery thanks to\u00a0its characteristics of practicality and reversibility. It is natural, non-toxic, water soluble and thermo-sensitive; its durability is proven by centuries of use in the construction of musical instruments. Above all, it facilitates best\u00a0the propagation of sound. It can also be applied to\u00a0wood as primer.<\/p><p><strong>Cyanoacrylate:<\/strong>\u00a0is an instantaneous contact adhesive particularly suitable for\u00a0glueing different materials with non-porous surfaces. Given its ability to bind with\u00a0biological tissues, it has been successfully used in surgical operations. It is waterproof and highly insulating.<\/p><p><strong>Epoxy:<\/strong>\u00a0extremely strong two-component resin. It is waterproof, insulating and heat resistant. Particularly suitable for bonding oily woods like cocobolo or olive wood, it can also be used as a primer, sealer or for the production of fillers.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-863346c e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"863346c\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-07c72d5 elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"07c72d5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9f2ad0b e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"9f2ad0b\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f759290 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"f759290\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e55af46 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e55af46\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Varnishes<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-32dbaed elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"32dbaed\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The\u00a0finish on a guitar is also very important, and mainly serves two purposes: one acoustic, and the other protective. It at once enrichens the harmonics of the guitar, and protects the wood from knocks, skin acid and sunlight.<\/p><p>Two types of finish are available:<\/p><p><strong>Shellac:<\/strong>\u00a0oleoresin, secreted by the female lac bug, on trees in the forests of India and Thailand. It is processed and dissolved in ethanol. Always applied by the\u00a0\u201cfrench polish\u201d technique for finishing guitars, it gives the wood a natural and high-gloss\u00a0look. Lightweight, elastic and very thin, the shellac layer is insulating and breathable at the same time.<\/p><p><strong>Nitrocellulose:<\/strong>\u00a0nitric acid-based, highly refined varnish of vegetable origin. Hard and very bright, the nitrocellulose is highly protective; it has been\u00a0used in guitar making for about 60 years, and its chemical formula has been adapted over time to improve its acoustic performance. It can be applied by airbrush\u00a0or hand-brush.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Glues The glues are the basic binders that hold together the structure of the guitars and determine their quality, robustness and acoustics.
